Dow below 10,000!
From the Associated Press — Wall Street tumbled again Monday, joining a sell-off around the world as fears grew that the financial crisis will cascade through economies globally despite bailout efforts by the U.S. and other governments. The Dow Jones industrials skidded nearly 500 points and fell below 10,000 for the first time in four years, while the credit markets remained under strain.

Will oil companies be drilling off your ocean front home? Chances are looking pretty good they will be when the coastal oil drilling ban is lifted. Many residents of the Hamptons are concerned that their ocean view might be destroyed when an oil rig decides to open up shop 3 miles off the shore! Might be poetic justice for the fat cat oil guys that own in the Hamptons. But it is really upsetting residents everywhere. Will this happen???

We will miss this guy very much. Montauk’s Monster Man, Captain Frank Mundus, the guy that everybody recognized as the real “Quint” from the movie “Jaws” passed away in Honolulu during heart surgery at 82. Frank Mundus was a true Montauk Legend, and world reknowned shark fisherman who will be deeply missed by everyone in the Hamptons and world wide.

If you haven’t heard, a great spot in Montauk, The Hideaway, is closing.
Dear Dan I was so upset to hear about the Hideaway closing due to the towns ordences. The owners of the restaurant are the kindness people you want to serve you food. The meals are great the view is fabulous and the locals who hang out there are the best of Montauk people. We have so much fun with the people who we met there. They had celebrity’s come to the restaurant and rave about their food. They welcome every one with open arms and help you out with their knowledge of boating, fishing mechanics, exc. I can’t even say most of the good things they have done for there town. I will be sad and upset until they can open again. Summer, winter, fall ,spring are the best times there and it will be miss by a lot of people.
Thank you a good costumer. LB
KEEP IT OPEN!

Now that the Hampton Classic is over, the Bridgehampton grounds off of Snake Hollow Road is one desolate place.

The summer round up? It was a good one.
According to Newsday, despite a weak economy, businesses ranging from bed and breakfast operations to retailers are reporting high sales because of a greater influx of foreign tourists, especially the ones with Euros in there pocket.
It may have been a good summer for retail, but waitresses reported really crappy tips on restaurant checks.
