How many times have you been on your cell phone on the East End and find yourself saying, “You there? Hello? You there?”
We all hate the idea of any new wireless communication towers, but the Town Board in Southampton this week announced that it is moving forward with its Wireless Communication Master Plan, with the goal of expanding on wireless coverage throughout the area. New antennas are being proposed on pre-existing structures to minimize the impact on the views of areas. There is also a three tier classification plan being put into place in Southampton by board memeber Nancy Gabrowski. The three tier plan is designed to make it easier for wireless companies to build small structures, and more difficult for them to build large structures.
Having a cell phone work well on the East End is all fine and good. But there are some of us, especially those that love Montauk, kind of like not having good coverage with a cell phone because it is an excuse not to be on it during your weekend escapes.
So now for the real question? Who offers the best wireless service on the East End?

If there is one guy out in the Hamptons that has got to be praying for rain, it is Josh May, the blogger who is reporting about his life on Yahoo while living at Project Greenhouse in East Hampton for a month. Mr. May has been given the keys to a brand new Lexus Hybrid. But if he wants to use it, he has to have a reason not to drive his electric scooter. Which basically means, he can only drive his Lexus when it rains.
Who’s up for some rain dancing at Dune tonight?

According to numerous cellular companies, there are too many black holes in the Hamptons. Why this makes sense, I don’t know, considering this area houses a zillion wealthy families every summer. I walked into the Golden Pear in Bridgehampton this morning to get breakfast and completely lost a phone call. As I tried to call back, a message continued to pop up: “No service.” How can my $600 iPhone not have service here? Furiously, I walked out of the Golden Pear to complete my phone call. Later in my day, another call was dropped. I realized that this had nothing to do with my iPhone, and all to do with the complete lack of cell service in the Hamptons. Thanks, Hamptons’ cell service. I’ve really been enjoying my iPhone.

Massive amounts of East Enders were let down last night when the Grucci-sponsered Montauk Fireworks were cancelled at the very last minute. Despite and on-and-off rainstorms, people truly thought the ‘works would happen, with hot-lines and beach staff saying everything was in motion! At the final hour, however, it was announced that they’d be postponed, until Fall, when none of these folks will be anywhere near the Hamptons. Hmmmm, bummer. We called the Montauk Chamber of Commerce ourselves this morning and spoke to Lorraine Creegan, “No one wants to get soaked, so the fireworks have been postponed until Oct 6th at 7 pm for the Fall festival. It was a last-minute call because of the torrential downpours.”

Attention party crashers: Page Six has reported the most exclusive parties to attend this Fourth of July celebratory weekend. Just don’t be offended if you walk away with a handful of condoms, instead of some new friends. You’ll understand after a second…
“Artist Ross Bleckner will throw the ACRIA bash he’s hosting along with Martha Nelson, André Balazs, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Bob Colacello, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Gillian Hearst-Shaw and Alex von Furstenberg at his Sagaponack home. Bleckner has a surprise for guests - instead of wristbands, revelers will get Magnum condoms as their tickets into the party. Donors who gave $1,000 or more will get two condoms and a signed print by artist Robert Longo.”
OR you could always sneak into Shabbot Services in Westhampon! Good husband-hunting at both spots, if that’s your thing!

Sag Harbor is home to some amazing yachts this summer. There is The Intuition owned by Pat Malloy and then there’s the Highlander owned by Forbes brothers, Tim, Steve, Bob and Kip. But what really blows me away is Bad Girl, the 186-foot, custom built cruiser which will be docked in Sag Harbor for most of the summer. It is privately owned and nobody is telling by who. The owners are willing to let you borrow it for the right price and if they aren’t using it however. I put in a call to the charter representative, Nigel Burgess, who told me that the owners are on it a lot and are very selective on who can use it. With a price tag of $250,000 a week, you would think they’d have to be.
Must be nice to have a yacht. Anybody want to go sailing?

Breaking news in the world of celebrity beauty — the woman responsible for JLO’s brows has extended her hours out East. Eliza (who, for all intensive purposes, does not have a last name), is now offering treatments in Southampton on Wednesdays thru Sundays.
Her cozy, purple-centric spot, located across the street from the Southampton movie theater, has been busily servicing MILFS, models and me strictly on Saturdays and Sundays. The extended schedule brings us all great solace.
She will also be offering facials, brow and eyelash tinting, and waxing anywhere you want it. It’s not easy being beautiful (but it’s a lot easier when Eliza works across the street from you…wink wink).

For those who enjoy a low-key lifestyle out East (”Hamptons Light,” if you will), Spencer Morgan’s story in The New York Observer left a bittersweet impression on us. The Hamptons, he declares, are as groovy and glam as ever, and it’s only getting hotter.
It’s not that I don’t want to see a booming, beautiful beach, it’s just that I’ve been spoiled with a few quiet, country-like weekends thus far. The crowd has been so nice and coridal, and now I’m anticipating an overwhelming influx of, well, Paris Hiltons.
Several sources say she’ll be here for a month or so before the season ends. Friends say she’ll spend time in NYC, after a trip to Greece, and then drive out East for a few “Welcome Home” parties.
Compared to jail, the traffic, humidity and hangovers should be a breeze!

Last Saturday was the after party for “Fierce People” hosted by The Cinema Society And The Wall Street Journal at a private residence in Southampton. It was quite the Hamptons scene, with locals Kelsey Grammer and Camille Grammer along with Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky showing their support for the movie and also their support for great Hamptons parties. The private residence also enjoyed the gorgeous presence of Heather Graham. As Bart Simpson would say, “Ay Carumba!”

Holly Peterson is everywhere! And rightfully so. Her hilarious new book, “The Manny,” comes out this summer - and has literary snobs from Uptown to the Hamptons saying it’s a smart, sexy hit! You can meet her this weekend at Bookhampton in Southampton (Saturday, 5:30), or get a taste of her “Life is too serious to take seriously!” attitude with this great, gutsy YouTube video. In an age of chic-lit with little originality, The Manny is in a league of it’s own. And Holly Peterson knows it.
