Hampton Celebs Looking Good

Christie Brinkley was looking stunning at the screening of in The Shadow Of The Moon at the Southampton UA Theater last Sunday. She sure as hell makes me want to see that movie. The gorgeous model/actress/milf has been hitting the Hamptons scene and a local pilates instructor told us that she has been keeping herself in amazing shape. We are all so happy that she is. I for one am certainly glad it’s her strutting her stuff around and not what’s his name.

Kiera Chaplin (yes as in Charlie Chaplin) had a birthday party hosted by W Hotels and Belvedere Vodka at a Southampton hideaway. The actress was looking great as always. Not too sure who the blond is holding the drink coming up the stairs behind her.

P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, Sean Combs or whatever you would like to call him was all smiles as he hosted Vic Latino’s new nightclub Whitehouse in Hampton Bays. He certainly entertained the crowd from his VIP table all night long, even though he showed up at around 2 a.m. “These people paid a lot of money to get into this club, we better show them a good time!” he yelled out to the cheering crowd through a microphone. We heard that he got paid $200,000 to basically be the man for a night during the Hamptons fourth of July.

A Movie Celebration in Southampton

Last Saturday was the after party for “Fierce People” hosted by The Cinema Society And The Wall Street Journal at a private residence in Southampton. It was quite the Hamptons scene, with locals Kelsey Grammer and Camille Grammer along with Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky showing their support for the movie and also their support for great Hamptons parties. The private residence also enjoyed the gorgeous presence of Heather Graham. As Bart Simpson would say, “Ay Carumba!”

GET PSYCHED FOR SICKO
June 24th, 2007

Last night was the premiere of Michael Moore’s new film, SICKO.

The film debuted at the East Hampton movie theater, followed by a private party at Prime 103.

Though viewers felt inevitably stirred, maybe even depressed, after the film (which focuses on the atrocious healthcare system in the US), the general consensus was that Moore has written, directed and produced yet another important, original, engaging film.

Plus, he has lots of fabulous friends.

Heather Graham and her boyfriend Charles Ferri sat next to me. She looked spectacular in her Pucci, but like all women in the theater, she was so unbearably cold that she contemplated leaving mid-movie. Instead her boyfriend bought some popcorn, which they ate rather loudly (I love her, but it’s true!).

Harvey Weinstein was in the audience, as was Chevy Chase. And of course, the crowd consisted of Hamptons-centric celebrities like Christie Brinkley and Tommy Hilfiger. Also there: LeeLee Sobieski, Candice Bergen, Steven Gaines and Jane Rosenthal.

See the movie. But you might want to bring your passport. It will make you insanely angry at our country. If not the passport, at least bring a sweater.

Movie Snipits
April 28th, 2007

Posted By David Evans

Here is my takes on all of the movies playing this week out in the Hamptons.

The Invisible
First, it was all the rage to remake Asian horror movies but now it’s the return of Scandinavian thrillers with this supernatural whodunit. Justin Chatwin stars as a teen trying to solve his own murder from beyond the grave in a film that describes itself as “Ghost meets ‘The OC’.”

Next
Nicolas Cage limps closer and closer to career annihilation with this uninspired thriller. Playing a Las Vegas magician who can see the future, he finds himself up against the CIA who wants to use his powers for evil. Julianne Moore offers meek, but beautiful support.

Kickin’ It Old Skool
Never-has-been, Jamie Kennedy, stars as a 32-year-old who wakes up after 20 years in a coma. Still with the mind of a pre-teen, he decides it’s time to round up his former breakdancer friends. While the concept is authentic 1980s, this is truly tedious fare.

The Condemned
While the idea of WWE’s Stone Cold Steve Austin being shipped off to an island in the middle of nowhere is certainly appealing, there’s no need to actually watch it. Here he plays a convict being used as a contestant by a reality TV deathmatch show. A deeply subpar Running Man.

Vacancy
The abysmal Kate Beckinsale continues her campaign of cinematic assault in this tale of a young couple that finds themselves trapped in a very sinister motel. This is director Nimrod Antal’s first US feature film and it’s an inauspicious start. At best, this is a mildy claustrophobic B-movie. At worst, this makes The Hills Have Eyes 7 look original.

Hot Fuzz
The British team behind zombie-farce Shaun of the Dead return for this parody of police drama. Perhaps the genre itself is less ripe for satire, or perhaps the plot just doesn’t move quite smoothly enough, but this has none of the brio of their previous outing. Certainly a welcomed change from drab American romcoms, but nothing special in its own right.

Fracture
After a string of roles playing sedate, older characters, Anthony Hopkins returns to the psychotic calm that won him international acclaim for his performance in The Silence of the Lambs. While this tale of a wily and murderous husband never comes close to that classic, it’s nonetheless a tense and sinister film. The ever-excellent Ryan Gosling weighs in as an assistant DA seeking justice for the deceased.

Pathfinder
Has director Marcus Nispel been possessed by the spirit of Mel Gibson? Certainly, this is a far cry from Nispel’s music video work (Cher, Janet Jackson, etc.) and feels much more overblown as in the simplistic, historical epic vein. Here, the plot concerns a fateful meeting between the Vikings and the Native Americans. Bloodshed ensues.

Disturbia
Allegedly rising star Shia LaBeouf plays a teen under house arrest that, out of boredom, finds himself watching his neighbors and possibly witnessing a murder. So Rear Window. But where that film crackles along at a breakneck pace with witty dialogue, this flounders through it’s narrative arc, fluffing the suspense and generally falling flat.

See The Hoax, Support Locals!
April 10th, 2007

By David Lion Rattiner

The new international movie starring Richard Gere called “The Hoax” is not only a fantastic movie, but it has so many Hampton ties it is ridiculous. Eli Wallach, the guy who you always see dining at Citta Nuova in East Hampton, and the guy who on countless occassions in the summer has performed with his wife one of the funniest renderings of “Romeo and Juliet” I have ever seen, has a big part in this movie. Seeing him on the big screen just puts a smile on your face.

Eli Wallach

But it is not just that. Clifford Irving, the writer that is so gracefully and expertly played by Richard Gere, is a Hamptons man. You could catch him all the time at Bobby Van’s bragging about his book about Howard Hughes which ended up being one of the most outrageous hoaxes in history. Not only that, but the Southampton Ferregut Gallery, which sadly recently closed for fire hazard reasons, has hosted the artwork of Clifford Irvings wife Edith on countless occasions.

It is so great to see Eli Wallach in this movie. He is true supporter of local arts in the Hamptons. He is very active with the Montauk Shakespeare Festival and Guild Hall’s John Drew theater. Seeing him on screen just puts a smile on your face and really reminds you how special of a place this is and the people that are here are.

Alec Baldwin To Pay For Soldier’s College Education, Talks At Baystreet
April 5th, 2007

Posted By David Lion Rattiner

Hamptons resident Alec Baldwin has made the news today with the announcement that he is going to pay for 18-year-old Private Resha Kane’s college education when she finishes her military commitment to the United States Army. Alec was so moved and inspired by a New York Times article about Private Kane saying goodbye to friends and family before being deployed to Iraq that he personally tracked down Ms. Kane’s in Arizona in order to tell her and her family that he would pay for her college education.

Needless to say, Ms. Kane and her family were very surprised. The Hamptons man has been a vocal advocate against the war, but has been clear on his position of supporting the troops.

Last Saturday, Alec was at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor where he talked about the differences between old Hollywood and new Hollywood. He and Jeffery Lyons, who is the host of the show “The Lyon’s Den” a TV show for movie buffs, had a conversation about how movies are made today. Bay Street was sold out for the event. -DLR
