On Saturday Elie Tahari threw a first class party at his Sagaponack estate that faces the ocean. Guests arrived to celebrate the new store he is opening in East Hampton as well as the New Yorkers For Children charity. The absolutely gorgeous house, which had a sleek sound system throughout as well as a stunning Bert Stern “The Last Sitting” photograph of Marilyn Monroe, had guests enjoying the cool breeze from the sea. Of course, Elie thought of everything, for those that wanted to walk to the beach without getting a little chilly, Elie had baskets filled with new white sweaters from his line to keep guests warm. It was a fantastic event.
Now there is a thoughtful guy.

As a guy who has a nice little spot out on the beach in Montauk, I’m always getting pumped when I hear about this event and I’m so glad that it is happening for the second year in a row. The Hamptons Home and Garden Show is the perfect event for East End homeowners to have a ball comparison shopping right on the Expo floor at the Southampton Elks Lodge Fairgrounds.
I’ll be strolling around on the 17 acres of gorgeous Hamptons property while hundreds of suppliers for my home will be at my fingertips. You can’t beat it. You can find anything from installing a private spa to information on making your home a member of greenhampton, which is something I am very interested in checking out this year after nearly having a heart attack when I saw my LIPA bill last month. I hear that solar paneling can turn your meter backwards and that LIPA will pay you! Wouldn’t that be a nice change? Also it’s great for the environment, so who can argue with that? My opinion on solar paneling is that the more homes in the Hamptons that do it, the better. I think they look pretty stylish too. What do you think about them?
What I’m also excited for is that at the Outdoor Expo is the VIP Tent which will have, the Moroccan Grille, (presented by Black Tie Caterers), and The Beer Garden, (presented by Southampton Ales and Lagers). This will be open during expo hours, so it will be fun to search for your next fountain or waterfall with Tortorella Pools while sipping some Southampton Ale and also rubbing elbows with HBO “Sopranos” star Lorraine Bracco who will be there hosting The No Place Like Home Foundation. You can read about how Dan Rattiner is readying his home by clicking here.
If you’re looking for more things to do in the Hamptons this weekend, check this out.

Hamptons resident Alec Baldwin has made the news today with the announcement that he is going to pay for 18-year-old Private Resha Kane’s college education when she finishes her military commitment to the United States Army. Alec was so moved and inspired by a New York Times article about Private Kane saying goodbye to friends and family before being deployed to Iraq that he personally tracked down Ms. Kane’s in Arizona in order to tell her and her family that he would pay for her college education.
Needless to say, Ms. Kane and her family were very surprised. The Hamptons man has been a vocal advocate against the war, but has been clear on his position of supporting the troops.
Last Saturday, Alec was at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor where he talked about the differences between old Hollywood and new Hollywood. He and Jeffery Lyons, who is the host of the show “The Lyon’s Den” a TV show for movie buffs, had a conversation about how movies are made today. Bay Street was sold out for the event. -DLR
