Newsday Published an entire chapter from Dan Rattiner’s book “In The Hamptons”
Without a doubt, this is the greatest book that has ever been written EVER!
From “In The Hamptons” By Dan Rattiner
The East Hampton Cinema on Main Street is where the world-class filmmakers who live here hold movie premieres.
I can think of at least a dozen films that have been introduced here, where they have rolled out the red carpet, put up the felt ropes, and positioned the paparazzi alongside to shoot the stars as they come in. But whenever I pass this theater, what I remember most is the very first premiere ever held here.
As it happens, it was not only the first one but also the biggest and most successful one. The film is still among the 10 highest-grossing movies

East Hampton’s Howard Schultz is sticking to coffee. The chairman and chief executive of Starbucks turned over management control of the corporation’s in-house record label, Hear Music, to Concord Music Group. The label launched last year with Amagansett resident Paul McCartney’s album Memory Almost Full.

Did you have any idea that the horrifyingly, American Psycho-esque thriller “Funny Games” starring Naomi Watts was filmed on Shelter Island and in Southampton? None of us here did either, but the sick movie was filmed right here. You mean to tell us Naomi Watts was running around here and we didn’t even no about it! Shame on us!
Needless to say, we are hearing some pretty good things about the movie and by good we mean bad, and by bad we mean sickening, and by sickening we mean good. It’s going on our list of Hamptons movies worth checking out though, after all, that’s Shelter Island your looking at. The movie may be creepy, but Shelter Island sure as heck isn’t. Okay maybe it is in the winter time when it is so quiet there, but the summer and spring time is radical. Naomi Watts? NAOMI WATTS? AND WE DIDN’T KNOW?
Check the trailer here, if you dare.

Who would have thought that Jerry Seinfeld has quick insticts behind the wheel? The East Hampton legend had a very close call in a car accident that could have been much worse. It’s amazing to us that he had the quick sense to pull the emergency brake, and then recognized that he needed to do a roll to avoid hurting anybody. We were all terrified this morning when we heard the news, thank goodness he is alright.
From The New York Post This Morning
The dramatic accident occurred at 7:40 p.m. Saturday on Skimhampton Road in East Hampton, said East Hampton Police Chief Todd Sarris.
Seinfeld was alone in the vehicle, driving north toward Montauk Highway.
“The brakes went bad,” Sarris said. But Jerry kept his head.
“He had to pull the emergency brake,” which Sarris said still failed to halt the two-door vehicle as it headed into traffic on the highway.
Seinfeld then cut the wheel to the right and “the car rolled over” and stopped yards from the intersection - just short of other vehicles. The 1967 Fiat BTM rolled onto the passenger side, then the roof, and finally came to rest on the driver’s side.
“His actions probably avoided a very serious accident,” Sarris said. “I think he was a little shaken up, with justification.”
Looks to us that his instincts with comedy are on par with his instincts while driving.

We had a feeling that we were gonna read about this sooner or later. You remember those Ross School Concerts last summer that were so unbelievably ridiculously awesome? Remember all the celebs that attended and all of the food and all of the hype which had Prince, Dave Matthews, Billy Joel, Tom Petty and James Taylor rocking out for the well to do? Well guess what? Not too many people shelled out the $15,000 bucks! The well connected Hamptonites worked their magic to get free tickets and celebs weren’t paying for tickets either. What did they think was gonna happen?
The Post has reported that the Ross School concerts last year lost $18 million bucks. The Warner Music Group, owned by Joe Meli, were responsible for the concerts.
They may have lost money on the concerts, but hey, they made one Billy Joel fan very happy. And if you are gonna lose $18 million, might as well party your !@#%!#% butt off!

Dan’s Papers isn’t the only paper that likes to make up stories. The rumor that Tiger Woods is moving to Southampton is not true, but even Dan here has to agree that it made for one heck of a story. For about one day, much of the country got word that Tiger Woods bought a $65 million estate thanks to a blurb about it in the New York Post. Our office here was getting calls from Connecticut radio stations to confirm, and most of us here just said huh?
Turns out that the blurb was a mistake, reps from Tiger Woods made a public statement that Tiger is not buying the home and they have no idea where the information in the Post came from.
In other news about celebrities who own homes in the Hamptons that are turning out false, P. Diddy made headlines today about an L.A. Times article portraying him being involved with the murder of Tu-pac.
CNN.com reported:
Sean “Diddy” Combs has denied a report by the Los Angeles Times that his associates were responsible for the 1994 robbery and shooting of Tupac Shakur at a New York recording studio, and that he knew about the attack in advance. “The story is a lie,” the hip-hop mogul said in a statement Monday. “It is beyond ridiculous and completely false.
Hey! Dan’s Papers is suppossed to be the news outlet that delivers the occasional whopper, get out of our rice bowl!
By the way, the Hampton Subway construction is going really well
