Year’s ago, you may remember being able to get a cup of coffee at Chock Full O’ Nuts literally the second as you entered into Southampton off of County Road 39, the exact location is 20 North Highway. But the doomed location put Chock Full O’ Nuts out of biz.
Then came “The Greasy Spoon” a nice little diner, and it operated for a few years, but ultimately closed up shop, and many were very sad.
But then, out of no where, came the all mighty Starbucks. And it has ruled 20 North Highway for the better half of this decade, but we are sad to say…
That it will be closing April 24. So if you want your caffenie fix from Starbucks in Southampton, you better get down there.

Stony Brook Southampton’s Avram Theater’s First Annual Green Film Series continues on Thursday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m., with a screening of “Swim for the River.”
The series is free and open to the public, with films running each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The final film to conclude this series will be: “Build Green” (4/16). All movies are produced by renowned environmental film company Bullfrog Films. Both events will also have a designated speaker to discuss the topic at hand. For further information, contact 631-632-5023.
“Swim for the River” focuses on the journey of Christopher Swain, the first person to swim the entire length of the Hudson River from the Adirondack Mountains to New York City. The film introduces a variety of people who are fighting to protect the Hudson against a range of threats from industry, inept regulatory agencies, and public indifference. His experience links together stories of the river, which begins in wilderness and ends in one of the nation’s densest population centers. Some of the obstacles included in his swim were whitewater, sewage, snapping turtles, hydroelectric dams, homeland security patrols and factory outfalls. This event will be moderated by Stony Brook Southampton Professor Alan Rice.
In “Build Green,” Canada’s best architects show us their latest green projects. From retrofitting an aging Montreal housing complex with state-of-the-art sustainable energy systems, to laying up hay for strawbale houses and building transportable “mini-homes” with their own small power plant, Build Green takes a close look at the materials and technologies we’d be foolish not to adopt as standard practice in construction. The event will be hosted by Stony Brook Southampton Professor Marc Fasanella and Bill Chalef.
In its second year, Stony Brook Southampton, a model of sustainability that was featured in The New York Times this past summer and on “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” and “The Today Show” this past spring, is continuing with its plans to build one of the nation’s truly green campuses.

Well, it looks like, when it all ended, his yard was just a mess. Rian White, who was able to attract national headlines claiming that his messy yard was actually art, which included a six foot hot dog statue, has been fined $5,000 for not complying with East Hampton’s town request to clean up his yard.
White, an artist, fought tooth and nail to justify his art. Some of it, we agree, could pass for art. Other “art” however, looked like a big mess to us. You be the judge.
