From “The Car Doctror”
Over 500 calls and Emails have poured in to the Premier auto Salon in the Hamptons, The Car Doctor in Bridgehampton. The Car Doctor is famous for it’s celebrity clients of which Jerry Seinfeld has been for a number of years. As many have come to know, The Car Doctor was instrumental in restoring Jerry’s famous 1967 Blue Jean VW Bug. Every one of these 500 calls and emails were asking the same question, “Ryan did you do the work to Jerry’s Fiat?”
The Car Doctor can safely report that the now infamous Fiat that Mr. Seinfeld reportedly flipped last weekend has never been worked on by any Car Doctor World technicians. “The bottom line is nothing like this should ever happen,” said Ryan Pilla, aka “The Doctor” and Owner of Car Doctor World. He continued to say, “Jerry has been to our shop over the years and we have had the fortune to work on many of his prize cars but this one has never seen our garage… I wished it had.” The Hamptons is notorious for cars that are stored in the winter and driven in the summer. This can create problems for the owners.
“I would like the public to understand how an accident involving brake failure might occur. First, it should be understood that a vintage car is more prone to failure of not only the brakes but all car components. Owners of vintage cars should take special care to get routine service and understand that these works of art need continual preventative maintenance and TLC. For all types of car (including new models), drivers should consider seasonal maintenance especially city dwellers who keep their cars hibernating in storage during the winter. Cars are designed to be driven. Allowing a car to sit can lead to disrepair including brake failure,” explains the Doc. So the answer to this dilemma? “Every Spring you should take your car to a reputable repair shop for a full check over including brake service,” Ryan recommends. What about Jerry Seinfeld’s mishap and his responsive driving techniques? “I was impressed to hear of his quick response. It appears as though he was a savvy enough driver to get himself out of quite a bind. I know that Jerry has had some driver training and apparently it served him well,” comments Ryan who we should also mention is a professional racecar driver.
