Thank you so much James H. Simmons. You are a man worth emulating and your gift will not just help the East End, but also represents what individuals like you can do for the communities that they live in.
From The New York Times
James H. Simons, a math professor-turned-hedge fund manager, is giving Stony Brook University $60 million, its largest gift ever and the largest gift to any public university in the state.
“The donation will bolster New York’s efforts to become a leader in innovation and excellence in higher education,” said Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who is to formally announce the gift Wednesday morning in New York City, along with university officials and Mr. Simons and his wife, Marilyn.

How many times have you been on your cell phone on the East End and find yourself saying, “You there? Hello? You there?”
We all hate the idea of any new wireless communication towers, but the Town Board in Southampton this week announced that it is moving forward with its Wireless Communication Master Plan, with the goal of expanding on wireless coverage throughout the area. New antennas are being proposed on pre-existing structures to minimize the impact on the views of areas. There is also a three tier classification plan being put into place in Southampton by board memeber Nancy Gabrowski. The three tier plan is designed to make it easier for wireless companies to build small structures, and more difficult for them to build large structures.
Having a cell phone work well on the East End is all fine and good. But there are some of us, especially those that love Montauk, kind of like not having good coverage with a cell phone because it is an excuse not to be on it during your weekend escapes.
So now for the real question? Who offers the best wireless service on the East End?

Why is Sarah Jessica Parker so likeable and such a hard working Hollywood actress? None of us here can tell, but we all just love her. We just heard today that East Hamptoite Sarah Jessica Parker is heading back to Broadway even after all of the work she has put into the new Sex And The City Movie! Sarah is going to be Italian flight attendant in the show Boeing Boeing, starting up in April at NYC’s Longacre Theater.
What is the secret to her figure? None of us know, but we’re sure it has something to do with the beaches of Amagansett.

Our very own MTV producer Gina Glickman, who also is a new reporter for News 12 as well as a Dan’s Papers columnist just finished producing a national television show for MTV entitled “Domenico’s Passport to Love”
Looks quite entertaining indeed. Thanks Gina for sending this along to us and letting us know! The show looks hysterical.

Hamptonite Martha Stewart made quite a move, her company just last Tuesday bought all of the rights to Emeril Lagasse’s seemingly endless franchise of cooking related products from him for $45 million in cash and $5 million in stock.
The loveable chef still gets to keep his restaurants however. Who would have thought good old Emeril had it in him? Not such a bad transaction for the “BAM!” man.

I don’t really get it, but I like it. Here is a video that was sent to us. It’s a video of driving through the Hamptons back roads, but sped up.

East Hampton officials have denied the Seafair Yacht, an awesomely sized yacht pictured here that sells desireable art around the world. The reason they denied was because they were concerned about parking issues and about the yachts ability to navigate Three Mile Harbor. There was also that tiny issue of using the commercial dock, which would undoubtedly tick off the fisherman.
Seafair made this same request last year and got denied by East Hampton. This year however, they are not messing around and applied to Sag Harbor as well. Sag Harbor, known for it’s yachts, happily invited the Seafair to stay at the main dock in the village. Good for Sag! We love this always rising star in the Hamptons real estate empire.
Now if only I could come up with a few hundred million for a Monet!

Way to go Jitney.
You can feel even better now about taking the Hampton Jitney out from Manhattan. Marketing director Jennifer Friebely just let us know about the the biodegradable, soy-based biodiesel that all of the buses are now going to be running on to get you to the Hamptons. Just another example of how this community and its businesses make sure to do their part for the environment.
No word on whether or not the Jitney is gonna gas up by taking the cooking oil from McDonalds in Southampton or if they are gonna switch from serving pretzels to French Fries. One can hope.
Isn’t it so nice to know that there is something called biodiesel that actually works? What me worry?

Water damage these days can be rough in a Hamptons homes. The picture here came to us from Tim over at Telemark Inc. in Bridgehampton. After a spec house was built two years ago without pipe insulation in an exterior wall, the cold temperatures caused a stop valve to burst sending water flying through the home causing $200,000 worth of damage. Art, furniture and personal items were also destroyed. With the cold weather, it’s a good idea to keep your home watched by an estate manager so that things like this can be avoided. For buyers of new homes, be sure to be extra careful with spec houses where you can’t see behind the walls, otherwise you might be calling Tim.

A drinking village with a fishing problem? Maybe so, but the gazillionaires all love Montauk!
From South O’ Column in Dan’s Papers: A classic Montauk mansion, symmetrical and waterfront, designed by Tom Gessler, has just sold for $21.5 million to art collector and media entrepeneur Adam Lindemann, who is the husband of Amalia Dayan, granddaughter of the late Israeli politician Moshe Dayan. The couple can list Paul Simon and J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler amongst their neighbors.
